  • Mandated Reporters

Priests, deacons, school faculty and administrators and other staff members in our parishes and schools have been designated as mandated reporters under California law.

When one of these persons receives information leading to a “reasonable suspicion” that a child is being abused or neglected, he or she must make a report to the appropriate child protection or law enforcement agency.

The following information is intended to assist victim-survivors, mandated reporters, and any person working or volunteering in the Archdiocese, to report suspected abuse and/or respond to a disclosure of abuse by complying with reporting laws, and responding knowledgably and with compassion. Forms and documents are available to guide you. If you have any questions regarding this information or these forms, please call the Archdiocesan Victims Assistance Ministry Office at 213-637-7650 or on our toll-free number (800) 355-2545

  • Making a Report of Misconduct

You may make a report of suspected sexual misconduct at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ sexual misconduct reporting line: 1-800-355-2545.This toll-free telephone number has been established as part of our effort to protect children, young people and other vulnerable people in our schools, parishes and ministries. This line is for reporting suspected sexual misconduct or child abuse within our institutions and ministries only. If you have some other type of complaint, please call the appropriate Archdiocesan school, parish or office directly.

Unless your call involves a report of suspected sexual misconduct, it will receive no action by leaving a message on the hotline.

If you wish to make a report of “child abuse” but it does not involve suspected misconduct by one of our Archdiocesan or parish/parish school ministers, employees or volunteers, please make your report to the appropriate child protection agency. You can call your local police department or the “child abuse hotline” number can be found in the front of your phone book.

A Prayer for Healing Victims of Abuse

Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness.
Grant us the courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with justice.
Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors.
Grant that all harmed by abuse may find peace and justice.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
Amen.
