Venice Community Housing’s TLC Program- Meal Train

Westminster TLC, a short-term housing program that offers homeless families a safe, nurturing home environment while they transition out of homelessness. The program, which opened in 1993, has helped over 200 families since its inception. The Westminster TLC is a 32-bed facility where eight families with up to three children per family live in three apartments. Parents share a bedroom with their children and share a kitchen, bath and living room with one or two other families.

During this COVID19 Pandemic, families are becoming food insecure with loss of donations from our regular partners and parents unable to work due to the closure of LAUSD.

The Disability Community Resource Center is not using volunteers at this time, but they are “open” virtually for services. Call for information and pass on the information to anyone that might need their assistance.

The Red Cross needs volunteers to distribute meals for LAUSD students during the emergency school closures. Contact Red Cross LA if you want to help.

“The Red Cross is here to help during times of need, and here in LA, there is need: School cancellations are visiting hardship and hunger on many students,” said Jarrett Barrios, CEO for the American Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “We are so pleased to staff these food distribution sites with Red Cross volunteers and call on Angelenos to join us by signing up to volunteer to help feed our schoolchildren.”

In addition to the Phone Reassurance program, Meals on Wheels West’s meal delivery is a much-needed volunteer opportunity. Meal delivery will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday between the hours of 10:30am-1pm.

The safety of volunteers and clients is our number one priority.

Volunteers are given gloves, face masks and wipes. Our COVID-19 protocol for meal delivery is to call the client to alert them that they are coming to drop off the food, get voice verification that the client is home, place meal at the door, stand six feet apart and make sure the client takes the meals.

For PATH – Remote Volunteer Opportunities

We need your help now, more than ever! PATH is working to meet the critical needs our most vulnerable neighbors, as we all cope with the impact of the spread of novel coronavirus in our community. As PATH continues to provide essential services to families, veterans, seniors, and community members with underlying health conditions, we are asking our supporters to engage in the following remote volunteer activities to help those most in need.

While we are all practicing social distancing, we encourage you to get creative in offering a continued sense of community and connection to the individuals and families we serve. Consider hosting a virtual volunteer event with your friends, family, or co-workers and assemble kits together. Consider writing a note of positive affirmation and encouragement to include in each kit. Consider including a simple craft, crossword puzzle, or another favorite fun activity!

Care Kits for Street Outreach

As you shop for personal hygiene items, pick up a few extra supplies for individuals currently experiencing homelessness to help keep them safe and healthy. Care Kits can be assembled in zip-lock plastic bags, or drawstring backpacks.

Urgent Needs:

  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Soap
  • Cleansing Wipes
  • New Socks
  • Non-Perishable Snacks

Food Support for Permanent Supportive Housing Sites

When you are next out grocery shopping, please consider filling your basket with a few extra food items and/or cleaning supplies to help our most vulnerable neighbors stay safe. Food support bags can be assembled in cardboard boxes or reusable grocery bags.

Urgent Needs:

  • Cereal
  • Rice or Pasta
  • Canned Goods
  • Non-Perishable Snacks
  • Cleaning Supplies

From Step Up on Second:

Right now SUOS is doing food pantry at our VA and VIne locations and serving hot meals to go through the 2nd address.

All my displaced staff are doing welfare calls right now. If someone gets sick, we might need assistance with that. We may have some opportunities coming up if we get out PPE stuff in for people to a assemble kits for staff. We could easily have it delivered to and picked up safely from a Volunteer’s location. I don’t have the manpower for this if we need it. So I am thinking I’ll need those volunteers in a week or two.

Thanks,

Amy
