The summer months are coming to a close, and we are being called back into community at work, school, and Church. School is back in session; thanks be to God! I had the joy of welcoming our school’s children back this past Friday during Mass. I was thrilled to see and hear the children’s voices bringing their particular kind of electrifying energy to our Church. I’ve missed them!
God is calling us all to live and love as the community of faith that we are created to be. This past Saturday, we did just that, celebrating the end of Summer with our first ever “Family Fun Day.” It was a beautiful afternoon filled with fellowship, good food, and sharing in the Eucharist at our Mass on the Grass. This event is not a singular example of our beautiful community. There is much to be thankful for!
Earlier this summer, parishioners helped us complete our “Called to Renew Campaign.”
Through much prayer and sacrifice, over 180 parishioners helped us exceed our goal with pledges totaling $1,349,545 (108%). We also finalized our altar remodel design, and thanks to the feedback from parishioners in July, we selected white paint-grade finishes. We now look forward to beginning construction by the end of September. Our weekly worship will continue uninterrupted as we temporarily relocate our altar while the work is completed.
The Church also calls us to serve those in need. I’m delighted to share that our community is answering the call. We have met our goal for “Together in Mission,” our annual diocesan appeal, raising $75,271 thanks to the generosity of over 100 St. Anastasia parishioners. Through parishioners like ours, who live out their faith in acts of charity, parishes and schools can continue to prosper in the city of Los Angeles.
There is much serving we do right here within our ministry groups. Our ministry volunteers are the heartbeat of our parish, and we appreciate all who serve in various capacities. After our lovely Ministry Appreciation Luncheon a few weeks ago, we are ready to bring back our Ministry Fair on September 18th. We have over twenty ministries at St. Anastasia, and I know there is one just right for you. I hope everyone takes time to reflect on their unique talents and discern how to share those talents to meet the needs of our community. Everyone is needed to carry out the mission of the Church.
It takes courage to listen to the Holy Spirit and devote ourselves to the task of discipleship and stewardship. So let’s respond to today’s Gospel by having the courage to pick up our own cross and continue building this community with resolve, knowing that with God at the center, we will always have the faith resources to do His will.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Fr. Leszek Semik
